The walls consist of a timber frame the outside of which
is faced with high quality planks of wood with a unique, rough, 'sawn' surface that are made by De Backer themselves from heat-treated greying wood and that are designed for outer walls.

The standard roof is covered with artificial thatch on solid wooden boards
(but tiles, concrete roof tiles, English tiles, slates or 'real' thatch are also possible).
